Cobb and Co’s reputation in Queensland was firmly established by its beginning driver Hiram Barnes who was responsible for opening all the early company routes in the State, gaining the title knight of the Whip. Mr Barnes was appointed general and road manager for Cobb and Co, and he remained in that position until the rush died out. After work in his father’s carrying business he joined Cobb and Co.
